Spas to Detox

Sweating isn’t the only way to detox.  Many spa products: facial scrubs, aromatherapy, body scrubs, facial masks,  facial scrubs, bath tea blends and herbal tea blends can help do the job also.

Most people believe that you only start detoxing from the inside out. Yes, that’s true but you can start from the outside in.  By removing dead skin, stimulating the outer skin layers down into the deeper areas through massage or bath salts or herbal detox baths, the entire body system is invigorated and prompted to move out toxins.

Drinking herbal teas before, during and after your bath can assist in getting out toxins.  You’re detoxing from the inside (with the tea), from the inside TO the outside (with the removal of toxins) and from the outside in via your bath!

A massage before your detox bath also assists in moving out toxins. and is essential for pain relief.  By stimulation lymph systems, release from muscle and tissues it it very beneficial in detoxification.

Regularly bathing is a spa bath is a good way to keep illness at bay.  By strengthening your immune system, consistently removing toxins, your body already has a head start on fighting flu and colds during winter months. Using bath salts is a great way to help rid yourself of toxins and pain.

Remove Toxins For Pain Relief

Toxins make pain.  It’s a well documented fact that the more junk you’re carrying around in your system, the more you’ll be in pain.

Again I use myself as a case study.  Years ago worked at Lowe’s in the garden center and inside seasonal department.  I was around the pesticide area constantly.  I swept floors, handled the bags for customers, restocked the shelves. (never without gloves)  I started experiencing pain all through my body.  Sometimes at night it would wake me out of a dead sleep;  I’d wake up screaming as if I were being stabbed!

After I left Lowe’s, my constant pain stopped.  I was being poisoned by pesticides!

Being more conscious of what I eat, I find that when my diet gets ‘junky’ with processed foods slipping in, and dehydration,  I start to experience more pain.  Toxins are building up.  My movement is restricted, I hurt more all over and I find myself reaching for the bottle of aspirin.

A good detox bath with either Epsom salts or Dr. Singha’s Mustard Bath takes the edge off that.  It helps the cells release and rebuild. Damaged cells allow more toxins in.

Follow these rules:

  • Go on a healthy, all natural (uncooked) food diet for a few days or a week.
  • Eat enough fiber.  Elimination of toxins through waste is very important.
  • Hydrate - Drink water, green teas, fresh juices - NO soda, fizzy water, juices with sugar or caffeine.
  • Go for massages to help drain your lymph system and remove toxins and acids
  • Take a detox bath using mustard bath and/or Epsom salts.
  • Do what you can to eliminate stress:  learn meditation, go for walks outside; whatever calms you.

You can help your body heal, relieve pain and regenerate.

Flu or Cold? Try Mustard Bath to Detox

This is flu and cold season.  The best defense is an offense, and doing a detox with mustard bath is a good way to stay ahead of the germs and the H1N1.

A hot bath with Epsom Salts or other bath salts, coupled with Dr. Singha’s Mustard Bath will detox your body. Eliminating toxins, which weaken the immune system, helps rid your body of potential bouts with flu and colds. The idea here, though, is to keep on top of it.  By regularly taking a hot detox bath - which raises body temperature - you are killing off germs.  That’s what a fever does where you’re sick.  It’s the body’s natural reaction to the virus.  Why not help it?

When my throat feels scratchy and I fear I might be bitten by some errant bug, I jump in the tub and ‘boil’ myself for an hour or two.  I guess, too, that I am blessed with a good immune system, but I never get sick.  I don’t get colds and haven’t had the flu in over 30 years.  (knock wood)

I’m not saying that Dr. Singha’s Mustard bath will cure the  H1N1 flu  or a cold once it’s gotten a good grip on you. No, it’s just a good cold and flu fighter and keeps your system running better to fight off illness.

ADHD Drugs

An article appeared in Reuters on children on medication for ADHD having hallucinations. Why is this no surprise?

The use of Ritalin and its cousins, all nervous system excitants, became the drug of choice during the 80s and 90s.  Ritalin is one of the most over prescribed drugs on the market today.  Although certain criteria should be met before assuming a child truly is ADHD, many physicians and parents are too quick to assume their child truly is ADHD, when all that may be needed is a ‘cleaner’ diet.

We’ve all seen kids bounce off the walls after eating high doses of sugar, haven’t we?  Why is it so strange to some that FOOD may actually be the cause of supposed ADHD in your kid?

The typical American diet is loaded with sugar and chemical additives. Browse any supermarket aisle containing lunch items and you will find a disturbing array of ‘food-like substances’ designed for convenience for Moms packing kids’ school lunches.  Food marketed as ‘healthy’ or a ‘good, nutritious lunch for your kids’ or ‘healthy snacks’ often contains more artificial ingredients than real, actual food.  Even so-called healthy yogurts:  low or no fat varieties of one popular brand, Yoplait, have a scary list of artificial ingredients.

Don’t fall for the claims of fast-food purveyors, either.  Every parent.., no.., make that every person, should read ‘Fast Food Nation’ by Eric Schlosser if you eat fast food.  Morgan Spurlock’s book, “Supersize Me”, which came out after the academy nominated movie, gives a behind-the-scenes look at McDonald’s and the fast food industry.  I guarantee, you’ll never feel the same about eating out after reading these two books.

ADHD is a real condition due to the brain’s neural transmissions and actual brain development. Rather than assuming your kid IS actually ADHD and is not just being a ‘normal’ kid with that kid energy, don’t automatically go for the doctor’s insistence on a drug regimen. Parents should consider a natural approach first.  What is your child eating during the day?  What IS IN their food that might be causing this?

Consulting with a licensed nutritionist or dietitian, having a chemical analysis done might be a good first step.  A cleaner diet, free of artificial chemicals, all sugars, no soda - might go a long way to helping the child.  Because studies have indicated that there are an average of 1,000 household  toxins in a child’s home  environment, eliminating these elements may also have some bearing.

As an old friend used to say:  “Start simple.”  It may be the most beneficial way to help your child.

Pesticides

In the book, Anti Cancer - A  New Way of Life by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, Phd, the author tells of two different studies on the prevalence of pesticides in children.

A researcher in Washington state conducted a series of tests on 42 children, ages 2 to 5.  As families were leaving either a conventional grocery store or an organic co-op, they asked the parents if they would write down everything their children ate or drank for three days.  Their diets were determined to be ‘organic’ if more than 75% of the food consumed was from organic sources; and ‘conventional’ if it wasn’t.

After measuring the amount of pesticides present in the children’s urine, she found that  the amount of pesticides in the ‘organic’ children’s urine was one sixth that of the ‘conventional’ children’s levels and far below the EPA’s level of minimum exposure rate.  The children on the ‘conventional’ diet had levels  more than four times above the safe exposure limit set by the EPA.

The second study was done over a period of 15 days on 23 children.  Their urine was tested after eating a ‘conventional’ diet for several days, and it showed the presence of pesticides.  Then their diet was switched to completely organic foods.  Within days, all traces of pesticides were gone from the urine samples.  Upon starting on the conventional diet again, their levels quickly resumed.

Since 1940 the production of pesticides and synthetic chemicals has increased to over 150 MILLION TONS a YEAR. Much of the chemicals go into food production, personal care products, household cleaners, manufacture of common construction materials, clothing and every day items. Due to increased exposure of pesticides & synthetic chemicals, cancer rates have increased.

For more information, read the above mentioned book.  It is a true eye-opener.

Do you go to your local garden center and

BUY DIRT?Sun-Mar 200 Composter

Why?

You can make your own compost very easily and save yourself a lot of money & won’t  have to lug heavy bags by using a composter.

You have all the makings for good compost right there at home.  Use grass from mowing your lawn, leaves from the fall, (which are even better if you’ve mulched them) branches and twigs cut from trees & shrubs. Add vegetable trimmings, egg shells, coffee grounds, tea bags and peels from the kitchen.  Don’t forget those refrigerator experiments with the hair on them! The only exceptions that don’t go in are meat  (including bones) and any dairy products.  Everything else makes great compost! All you need to do is put it in a composter and the rest is done for you.

The breakdown of these materials turns into ‘brown gold’: light, fluffy and nutritious compost.  Good nutrition is vital for your garden.  It helps plants ward off pests and disease without using dangerous  toxic chemicals and pesticides.  Another benefit is you are getting FREE DIRT!

Sun-Mar has been making composters for about 30 years.  They’ve used the proven technology from their  best-selling composting toilets;  a rotating drum. This ensures a good mixture and quick decomposition of organic materials.

Instead of using your garbage disposal, which wastes water and electricity, a composter is an earth-friendly, pest-free alternative.  Outdoor rascals like dogs, cats, racoons, possums and skunks can’t get into the sealed drum.

Compost is easy to make.  You’re half way there every time you make a meal. Why not start today?
